Walking Down the Virtual Road and Next Thing You Know You’re being Stalked

Reading the Alphaville Haroldtoday, I was completely surprised to see the story about the JLU who take it upon themselves to “stake out” avatars and went as far as to stalk the family of an AIDS patient to verity that he was on his deathbed, because they thought it would result in less game world griefing. It was even more shocking to find that the information that the JLU has collected about players (without their permission might I add) has been hacked. In a world where our personal information is already in the hands of a company that could be pray to hackers, THIS incident makes my spine tingle. It’s quite frightening to think about it, what is even more disturbing is the lengths taken to prove facts such as the death of another human being just because this person might be a griefer.

It is no lie that in SecondLife, for those of us who have the ‘Payment Info Used’ tag in our profiles, that the thought of being hacked is a very scary idea, but being actively stalked is in a whole different type of scary. What do you think?

  1. I think LL should close them down and ban them all.
