Apple Found Guilty Over Raising E-Book Prices

This week hasn’t been a good day for technology company Apple as they were found guilty for violating federal antitrust laws in an attempt to eliminate their competition.

According to a Yahoo News article, U.S. District Judge Denise Cote found compelling evidence against Apple who were accused of conspiring to undermine Amazon.com’s e-book dominance by causing some of e-book princes to rise, doubling their price from $9.99 to $12.99. Cote was quoted, saying:

“Apple chose to join forces with the publisher defendants to raise e-book prices and equipped them with the means to do so. Without Apple’s orchestration of this conspiracy, it would not have seceded as it did.”

Those who were involved in the conspiracy have chosen to settle out of court but Apple plans to appeal the judges decision. Apple’s spokes person Tom Nuemayr states:

“Apple did not conspire to fix e-books pricing. When we introduced the iBookstore in 2010, we gave customers more choice, injecting much needed innovation and competition into the market, breaking Amazon’s monopolistic grip on the publishing industry. We’ve done nothing wrong.”

Well that is what Apple thinks, but what you think?
