Wil Morris’: Late E3 Thoughts and Opinion

What do I think of this years E3?

“It sounds like battleships. E3! Hit! You sunk my console!”

“Speaking of sinking people’s consoles…”

[Paul Goodman/Jon Bolding on Escapist Magazine Podcast]

There was the dispute between Sony and Microsoft, or the ‘PlayStation 4’ and ‘Xbox One’. Frankly, it has been a complete mess, with Microsoft pulling, what the gaming community has dubbed, the “Xbox One-80” and Sony not really doing that much in terms of moving on. Here is how the consoles stand at the moment.

Xbox One:

No DRM, always online and no more Kinect connection. The “Family plan”, the ability to share your games with up 10 people on your friends’ list, has also gone bye-bye.

PlayStation 4:

It allows used games, has no DRM, but owners will need to have a PS-Plus paid account to play online.

Game Designer and Head of 22 Cans, Peter Molyneux,  made a good point in his interview with gaming news website Game Industry International. when he stated that, Sony and Microsoft were like ‘two frat houses’. Molyneux called Microsoft’s E3 conference unprofessional,  adding:

“Always online is simple for me. As a consumer, just show me why I should be always online and I’ll be happy with it. At the moment, it just means game sale authentication. I don’t want that.”
